By working with the right organisations to challenge the environmental and social issues that impact our business we aim to bring about positive changes for the communities in which we operate.

Business can often be the biggest contributor to community development – providing jobs, prosperity and investment to communities. However, making a difference to the communities in which we operate through voluntary partnerships with charities and not-for-profit organisations is an integral part of our social responsibility strategy. We provide financial support to local and national charities; and encourage our employees to get involved in fundraising, and volunteering.

Through our Community Programme, we aim to:

  • support charities and voluntary initiatives in the community that are relevant to our business objectives and brand values;
  • increase financial contributions through company donations, employee fundraising and payroll giving;
  • maximise contribution delivered through non-financial means, such as employee volunteering;
  • create lasting value for our community partners and employees through training and skills development; and
  • maximise the value of our partnerships, by measuring key performance indicators.

Our employees select a charity partner to support for a three year period and we’re proud to have raised an incredible £1.1 million for the Air Ambulances throughout the 2016-18 period.

From 2019, we will be fundraising for the mental health charity Mind and their sister charity in Scotland, SAMH. Our employees run, walk, cycle, bake and do a variety of things to help raise valuable funds for our charity partner – and then Allianz matches the donation.

Disaster Relief

In the event of a natural disaster that prompts an appeal by the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC), Allianz will respond by offering an immediate one-off payroll giving facility through which employees can make a tax-efficient donation to the disaster appeal. This donation will be channelled through Care International, our chosen international emergency partner for employee donations in the UK.

We encourage all our employees to contribute their time, skills and passion to their local communities. We believe volunteering is a great way for employees to develop communication and leadership skills as well as building relationships within teams. Our employees take pride in supporting their local communities and they tell us that its one of the things that makes us a great place to work.

All of our employees are entitled to 10 hours paid leave per year to volunteer in their local community every year. We encourage this level of participation as part of your role at Allianz because we want to:

  • enhance our employee’s personal development by expanding the range of skills and experiences available to them;
  • underline our aims to be a great place to work, by encouraging morale and motivation amongst our people;
  • have a demonstrable, positive contribution to our society and the environment in which we live and work.

In 2018, 697 employees gave 4,315 hours of their time to their local communities.
